The Fiddlin’ Big Sue Band

The Fiddlin’ Big Sue Band is Sue and Tom Hunnel , Janet Nelson and Jerry Zybach.  Rooted in Old Time Fiddling, Bluegrass and Newgrass the band presents a wide variety  of  musical styles including their own, “SueGrass”.

Music for the whole family with toe tapping and hand slapping results in a “Good Old Time” for everyone. The group has performed in over a 1,000 venues,  8 states and 7 countries in the last thirty years.  From 1974 to 1984 the band played under the “Whiskey Creek String Band” flag. Next they became “Fiddlin’ Big Sue, Uncle T & Johnny” until 2004. They have opened for Asleep at the Wheel, Doc Watson, Byron Berlin, Ricky Skaggs and more.

Fiddlin’ Big Sue is from Eugene, Oregon. You can always count on her for something different, exciting and powerful.

Tom “Uncle T” Hunnel  picks the guitar, mandolin, and tenor banjo.        Most of the lead vocals fall to Uncle T and quite a bit of the stage chatter seems to emanate from his microphone. We are trying to get him to stop joking around but I think he is too far over the edge.

Janet Nelson cut her musical teeth in the jazz and blues scene of Eugene, Or and has been playing in the Pacific Northwest since 1980. Working with duos, bands and as a solo musician, she enjoys a wide range of genres and musical styles, and has found a new home with the Fiddlin’ Big Sue Band.
